In the fall of 1994, interest in forming a senior hockey league was increasing throughout the West Central area. Teams were formed in Whitecourt, Sangudo, Mayerthorpe, Swan Hills, Fox Creek, Edson, and Hinton with a number of exhibition games played. By the spring of 1995, the concept of a new league for the area was turned into reality when representatives from the above teams and Slave Lake sat down and created the North Central Hockey League naming George Vanberg of Whitecourt as it's President. On the local front, a group headed by Kirk Holtet and Brad Peavoy laid the framework for Fox Creek's senior hockey club. Joining them on the club's first executive were Herb Doll, Manny Kutschinski, and Larry Davidson. The club held a Name the Team contest, with Holtet supplying the winning entry - the Bandits. The executive agreed on using the Dallas Stars uniform colors, and Peavoy supplied the logo for both the North Central Hockey League as well as the Bandits. In the fall of 1995, Sangudo suddenly decided not to participate in the league, and Athabasca was added to bring the number of teams to 8.

After a year in planning, the NCHL opened it's doors in the fall of 1995. Swan Hills lead the North Division from day one, while the Hinton Heat topped the South Division. The Bandits fell back into 4rd place behind Slave Lake and Athabasca and ended up playing Swan Hills in the first round of the playoffs, losing the best of 3 series in 2 games. Slave Lake defeated Athabasca in the other division semi final, and also defeated Swan Hills in the division finals. Hinton disposed of Edson and Whitecourt to advance to the best of 5 game league finals against Slave Lake. After 5 hard fought games, Hinton came out victorious, becoming the NCHL's first league champions.

The 1996-1997 season saw the Bandits switched to the South Division and Mayerthorpe moved to the North. The season started slowly for the Bandits, but about half way through, the wins started to come and the club ended up in second place behind Edson. Rookie goaltender Ian Chwok solidified the club's goaltending and Jamie Lamb again led the club in scoring, with Jesse Prochera, Kevin Kelly, Russ Tomyn and Mike Davidson providing ample support. Others on the team that year were Tom Shukin, Dan Sutherland, Dale Lindgren, Serge Beauchesne, Don Hailes, Curtis Kiyawasew, Dennis Bellwood, Boyd Kiyawasew, Randy Miko, Terry Bellwood, BJ Tainsh, Brett Marple, Cody Shold, Elden Stewart, Bill Gorzitza, Chris Winter, Darcy Thacker, Steve English, Brad Peavoy,Shane Quinn, Wayne Scobey, and Craig McIntyre.

The All-Star game that season was held in Athabasca with Ian Chwok named the starting goaltender for his division. He was joined by fellow Bandits Serge Beauchesne, Dale Lindgren and Mike Davidson
1997 was also the year that the Hinton Heat were suspended by league. When the playoffs arrived, the 3 teams in the south division (Edson, Fox Creek and Whitecourt) played a double round robin to determine the 2 teams that would face off in the south division finals. Unfortunately, Fox Creek lost out, and Edson went on to defeat Whitecourt to represent the south division. In the North, Slave Lake ran away from the pack, and defeated Mayerthorpe and Swan Hills to claim the south flag. The finals were a great series, with Slave Lake winning out over Edson in the best of 5 series, 3 games to 1.
That year also saw YL Country Radio of Peace River broadcast a number of Bandit's games, both at home, and on the road, which was something no other team in the league could boast about. Rob Anderson and Clay Seimens became popular fixtures around the arena with their pre and post game interviews with the players and coaches.
The Bandits collected some league recognition at the end of the season when Ian Chwok was named the NCHL goaltender of the year, and coach Randy Cross was named the NCHL coach of the year.
Bandit award winners that season were Mike Davidson - Most Popular Player, Jamie Lamb - Top Scorer, Russ Tomyn - Most Dedicated, Serge Beauchesne - Top Defenseman, Ian Chwok - Most Valuable. |

1997-1998 again saw changes to the NCHL. Teams from Grande Cache and Drayton Valley were added, while the Mayerthorpe Hitmen became the first team to drop out. Hinton was admitted back into the league with a new executive. The league divisions were again shuffled as:
North Division - Slave Lake, Fox Creek, Swan Hills, Athabasca, Whitecourt.
South Division - Drayton Valley, Edson, Hinton, Grande Cache.
The Bandits wound up in 3rd place, 2 points behind Whitecourt. All teams made the post season playoffs, so to accomodate 5 teams in the North Division, the middle 3 teams each played a home and home total goal series which Fox Creek ended up winning, with Boyd Kiyawasew scoring the winning goal against Whitecourt in the second overtime session of the deciding game. The Bandits moved on to play Slave Lake, who had bouced Swan Hills in 4 straight games. The first 2 games of the final series were fairly close, but ultimately the Bandits lost in 4 straight to the Winterhawks. In the South Division, Drayton swept Edson and Grande Cache swept Hinton before Drayton defeated Grande Cache in 5 games to advance to the league showdown versus defending champion Slave Lake. The Wildcats proved too much for Slave Lake who lost out in 4 straight games.
The Bandits were lead by familiar faces that season. Ian Chwok showed everyone that his Top Goaltender award wasn't a fluke, and the club further solidified their goaltending with the addition of another rookie in Chris McKennitt. Jamie Lamb lead the club in scoring for the 3rd season in a row, with support from Brad Allen, Dory Malanowich, Russ Tomyn, Boyd Kiyawasew and Mike Davidson. Others on that squad were Chris Winter, Jim Langston, Dennis Bellwood, Brandon Hughes, Kevin Kelly, Bryce Palmer, Terry Palmer, Terry Bellwood, BJ Tainsh, Steve Lush, Brett Marple, Joel Taylor, Orland West, Chad Allen, Ryan Firth, Mark Harroun, Steve English, Serge Beauchesne, Craig McIntyre, Ryan Krebs, Cody Shold. Randy Cross was again the head coach, with Donald Hailes on as an assistant coach. Doug Young was equipment manager, Bill Neumeier was back as athletic therapist, and Kirk Holtet was again the general manager.

The annual All-Star game was played in Edson and Ian Chwok was again selected to be the North Division starting goaltender. Other Bandits selected that season were Jamie Lamb, Serge Beauchesne, and Mike Davidson.
YL Country radio again broadcast a number of Bandit's games on the radio that season. Rob Anderson returned as the play by play guy, and Bandit's PA announcer John Cooke did some color commentating during these broadcasts.
The NCHL again named Ian Chwok as it's Top Goaltender.
The Bandit's award winners that season were Jamie Lamb - Top Scorer, Brad Allen - Most Dedicated, Chris Winter - Most Improved, Brett Marple - Top Defenseman, Ian Chwok - Most Popular and Most Valuable.
The Bandits funded a Hockey Scholarship contest for all elegible members of Fox Creek Minor Sports, which was won that year by Dakota Clutton. |

The 98/99 season saw changes of both the executive and coaching staff. New to the executive that season were Cal Carlson - President, (who moved up from Vice President when no one else could be found), Leslie Young - Secretary, Randy Cross - Treasurer, Manny Kutschinski, Bill Neumeier, Paul Desultels and Albert Baumgarten - Directors. The coaching staff was Bob Marple - Coach, Doug Young - Equipment Manager, Duane Rioch - Manager.
There were also changes within the NCHL as the Westlock Wolfpack were welcomed into the league bringing the total to 10 teams. Westlock joined the Bandits, Swan Hills, Slave Lake, and Athabasca in the North Division, while Whitecourt moved over to the South Division, joining Drayton Valley, Edson, Hinton, and Grande Cache. Athabasca unfortunately folded just over half way into the season due to shortage of players, and Swan Hills discontinued operations at the end of the regular season for the same reasons.

The Bandits finished in 3rd place behind Slave Lake and Westlock, and due to Athabasca and Swan Hills folding, played Westlock in the Northern semi finals, losing the best of 5 series in 3 straight games.
For the first time in club history, Jamie Lamb didn't lead the club in scoring that season as he missed more that half of the season. Boyd Kiyawasew was the leading scorer, followed closely by his brother Curtis, Dory Malanowich, Joel Taylor, and Jason Powell. Others on the team were Dennis Bellwood, Todd Bymoen, Shane Campbell, Mike Davidson, Albert Goodswimmer, Donald Hailes, Stacy Hanlon, Daryl Hebert, Kevin Kelly, Kelly Lang, Jim Langston, Steve Lush, Brett Marple, Chris McKennitt, Darcy Dunkley, BJ Tainsh, Shawn Murray, Joey Pettifer, Donny Powell and Ian Chwok.
Fox Creek hosted the NCHL All-Star game that season and the Bandits were represented by Ian Chwok, Brett Marple, Boyd and Curtis Kiyawasew, and Mike Davidson. To this point in time, Mike Davidson was the only player in the NCHL who played in every all star game since the league's inception.
YL Country radio was on hand for a number of games that season, with Dave Kedun calling the play by play. This would be the last season that YL Country would broadcast NCHL games.
The award winners that season were Boyd Kiyawasew - Top Scorer, Chris McKennitt - Most Improved, Darcy Dunkley - Top Defenseman, Ian Chwok - Most Valuable.

The 1999-2000 season saw more changes to the Bandit's organization. On the executive side, Duane Rioch became the new President, Leslie Young took over the Treasurer's position, with Bill Neumeier, Albert Baumgarten and Manny Kutschinski as Directors. Clyde Goodswimmer was named the Head Coach, with Merv Vaadeland an Assistant Coach, Doug Young as Equipment Manager, and Duane Rioch as Manager.
The club had a difficult year keeping their roster full, with many games played with the minimum amount of players. Marcus Ryan lead the team in scoring, followed closely by Jamie Lamb, Boyd Kiyawasew, Mike Davidson, Bryce Palmer, and Floyd Goodswimmer. Others on that team were Terry Ayles, Dennis Bellwood, Shane Campbell, Brent Chartrand, Nestor Chartrand, Shannon Chowace, Al Durocher, Bill Gorzitza, Don Hailes, Stacy Hanlon, Ryan Holtet, Brandon Hughes, Kevin Kelly, Kelly Lang, James Pierrard, Brad Allen, Dave Chapados, Albert Goodswimmer, Kevin Hamelin, Dwayne Hawryluk, Curtis Kiyawasew, Jamie Lamb, Derek Ryan, Tyler Scobey, Sheldon Sunshine, Joel Taylor, Ian Chwok, and Chris McKennitt.
The club ended up in last place during the regular season, and had to face the first place Westlock Wolfpack in the divisional playoffs, losing the best of 5 series in 3 games. Slave Lake ended up winning the North, while Grande Cache surprized everyone by winning the South, and eventually the NCHL championship.
The All Star game was played in Hinton, with the Bandits represented by Marcus Ryan, Kelly Lang, Mike Davidson and Floyd Goodswimmer.
The club did not announce award winners that season.
The NCHL named Boyd Kiyawasew as it's Most Sportsmanlike Player, and Mike Davidson received an award for service to the league.

Following the 2000 season, interest, both at the player level, and with the fans had dropped off substantially. While the Bandits were routinely playing in front of 200+ fans in previous years, there were games that season where there weren't many fans in the bleachers. There did not seem to be any interest at the executive level as well, as no one was willing to sit on the board. The Bandits requested and were granted a one year leave of absence from the NCHL for the 2000-2001 season. The NCHL also lost the Grande Cache Rockies who folded after winning the championship due to economic changes in their community, and the Westlock Wolfpack moved over to the Chinook Hockey League.. The NCHL was comprised of only 4 teams this season, Hinton, Edson, Whitecourt, and Slave Lake. Slave and Hinton went 1-2 most of the season, ending up in the championship series, which Hinton won in 5 games. The All Star game was played in Slave Lake, with each of the 4 teams supplying 10 players.
A handfull of Bandits went south to Whitecourt to play for the Cats that season, including Ian Chwok, Mike Davidson, Boyd Kiyawasew, and Bryce Palmer. Chris McKennitt signed on with the Lakeland Eagles of the North Peace Hockey League.

|
During the summer of 2001, a group of individuals started drumming up interest in re-forming the Bandits. This group included Ian Chwok, Chris McKennitt, Kirk Holtet, Randy Cross, and Brad Peavoy. The group felt there was sufficient player interest to approach the league for re-admission. The NCHL was happy to reinstate the Bandits for this season. A new executive was formed, with Kirk Holtet as President, Brad Peavoy as Vice President, Randy Cross as Treasurer, Chris McKennitt and Boyd Kiyawasew as Directors. The coaching staff was made up of Randy Cross as Head Coach, Don White as Assistant Coach, Trevor White as Assistant Coach and General Manager, Lyle Geise as Equipment Manager.
This proved to be a long, trying season, despite only having a 16 game schedule. The team took it's lumps for most of the season, as the year away from competitive hockey, combined with the fact that the other NCHL teams were all improved, just about took it's toll on the Bandit's players and coaching staff. Despite the team's obviously poor record, both fan and corporate support proved to be overwhelming. Towards the end of that season, the club became more competitive, albeit in a losing cause.
Jamie Lamb, for the 4th time, ended up as the club's leading scorer, despite missing the last third of the season to injury. Boyd Kiyawasew, Mike Davidson, Jason McArthur, Lee Hunter and Stacy Hanlon were amoung the team leaders in scoring. Others on the team that season were Ted Smith, Terry Palmer, JR Havig, Kent Stephenson, Tyler Fittes, Brandon Hughes, Corwin Felstad, Al Durocher, Mike Gumowka, Troy DeCiccio, Duane Rioch, Dave Langill, Zane Ashmore, Derrick Peterson, Jay Friesen, Tyler Plamondon, Darcy Dunkley, Jon Perras, Kelly Lang, Chris Winter, Robert Holtet, Ian Chwok, Chris McKennitt, and Shawn Fletcher. The club released Ian Chwok at the January 10th cutdown and he joined up with the Lakeland Eagles of the North Peace Hockey League for the playoffs.
The All Star game was played in Whitecourt, with the Bandits represented by Jamie Lamb, Bryce Palmer, Boyd Kiyawasew, and Lee Hunter. Mike Davidson had been selected to the team, but had to back out because of an injury. Bryce Palmer narrowly missed out on being named the North Division player of the game as he picked up a total of 6 points.

The 2002-2003 season started off with much optimism as the Bandits got some home grown players back. Ty Scobey, Nate Moore, Buddy & Cody LaMarsh, Colin Bartlett, Mark Mihaichuk and Chase Lamb joined the club, as did goaltender Ian Chwok. The coaching staff was again headed up by Randy Cross, with Terry Palmer and Darrel Groeneveld taking on assistant coaching duties, and Lyle Giese was again the team's equipment manager. The club started fairly well, although they lost, the games were close, something the club couldn't accomplish in 2001. The club fell into a rough stretch, were some of the scores again got out of hand, but towards the end of the season, things again seemed to pick up. Nate Moore led the club in scoring, followed closely by Chace Lamb and Ty Scobey. The club did lose 2 of it's veteren players in Mike Davidson and Jamie Lamb. Others on the team were Lee Hunter, Stacy Hanlon, Boyd Kiyawasew, Bryce Palmer, Jason McArthur, Brad Allen, Mark Giasson, Mike Gumowka, Todd Bymoen, Adam Schedlosky, Brandon Hughes, Buddy Lamarsh, Colin Bartlett, Kyle Scobey, Shane Campbell, Chris Bignell, Cody Lamarsh, Craig Stephen, Duane Rioch, Joey Pettifer, Mark Mihaichuk, Mike Young, Mike Munro, Troy Mearon, Ty Plamondon Ian Chwok, Chris McKennitt, and Ryan Toner. The team changed it's colors this year, as McClelland Oil Services sponsored new home and away uniforms. Gone were the black, green and white colors of the old Dallas Stars, and in were the green, gold, white, and black of the Manitoba Moose.
The NCHL did not have an All Star game in 2002.

2003-2004 saw the NCHL back up to six teams with the addition of the Jasper Wolves, who proved to be very competitive on the ice, and a blockbuster off the ice as they continually played in front of a packed house in Jasper. The Bandits coaching staff remained fairly constant as Randy Cross was back as Head Coach, Darrell Groeneveld as Assistant Coach, Lyle Giese as Equipment Manager, and Kirk Holtet as General Manager. The club welcomed Donald Hailes back as an Assistant Coach, and Bill Neumeier rejoined the club as Athletic Therapist. The club finally managed to find a way to win in their second game of the season with an inspired 5-4 home ice victory over Hinton. They proved it wasn't a fluke by defeating the Heat again the next weekend in Hinton 4-2. Their first trip to Jasper was an eye opener for many, as Jasperites flocked to see their first senior hockey action in over 20 years, with a crowd estimated at 700, by far the largest gathering anyone could remember seeing in the NCHL. Jasper proved to be tough on the Bandits as they logged an 0-4 record against the Wolves, and Slave Lake was tough as always as the Bandits went winless against the Winterhawks. The Bandits fared much better against the other NCHL teams, splitting 4 games each with Hinton and Edson, and taking 3 of 4 games from Whitecourt, ultimately securing the 4th and final playoff position on the last weekend of the regular season. The playoffs were short and not so sweet as the Bandits were knocked out in three straight by the defending champs Slave Lake, with the 3rd game being defaulted when the Bandits didn't have enough players to make the trip to Slave Lake, which was a very dissapointing end to a fairly successful season. Tyler Scobey lead the club in scoring, followed closely by Stacy Hanlon, Chace Lamb and Jamie Lamb. Ian Chwok and Chris McKennitt gave the club solid netminding, and the defence was solidified by the addition of newcomers Craig Jahnke, Kenny McLeod, and Dave Langill. Others on the team were Adam Schedlosky, Bryce Palmer, Brett Lamb, Jason Hayes, Colin Bartlett, Nate Moore, Brandon Hughes, Steve Mueller, Ty Plamondon, Mike Davidson, Ian Morin, Boyd Kiyawasew, Todd Bymoen, Chris Bignell, Shayne Campbell, Mike Young, Danny Leamon. The loss of Mike Davidson, Boyd Kiyawasew, Danny Leamon and Steve Mueller proved to be huge as the club struggled to maintain a full lineup after Christmas and into the playoffs.
The Bandit's award winners this season were: Tyler Scobey won MVP and Top Scorer, Dave Langill won Top Defenseman and Most Improved, Craig Jahnke won Best 1st Year player and Most Dedicated, and Ian Chwok won the Fan's Choice as Most Popular Player.
The Bandit's annual Minor Hockey Scholarship was awarded to Devon Ismond

The start of the 2004-2005 season came with a lot of enthusiasm due to the club's improvement the previous season. Both the Edson Ice and the Whitecourt Cats took one year leaves of absence and the Cats demise sent some of their players north to Fox Creek. Unfortunately, things didn't work out as planned and the club struggled to a miserable 2-15-1 record, good for last place in the league. The team did have a few bright spots however, and the brightest was the play of goaltender Ian Chwok, as he walked away with not only the Bandit's MVP award, but added another 1st team all star selection and the league's top netminder award. Newcomer Izaak Hudson immediately proved to be an impact player, narrowly missing out on an all star team selection despite only playing two thirds of the season. Second year defenceman Craig Jahnke also had a good season, doubling his point output from last season, and Tyler Scobey won his second consecutive team scoring trophy. Others on the team were Les Paul, Gavin Warnock, Brett Lamb, Kenny McLeod, Mike Young, Jason McArthur, Dave Langill, Ian Morin, Jason Kramm, Chace Lamb, Darrell Acker, Ty Plamondon, Cory Fath, Marcus Ryan, Nick Hudson, Stacy Hanlon, Buddy LaMarsh, Brandon Hughes, Shane Campbell, Chris McKennitt, Nate Moore, Bryce Palmer, and Adam Schedlosky.
The Bandit's annual award winners were Izaak Hudson as top defenceman and top first year player, Darrell Acker as most dedicated, Adam Schedlosky as most improved, Scobey as top scorer, Chace Lamb as the fan's choice most poplular player, and Chwok as MVP.
The club did not award a hockey scholarship that season.
